Hey, so I thought I’d write a little something about myself and about my photographs since I don’t usually write much here!

My name is Sophia. My photography name is Sop Danger. I am a strapping, young photographer, painter, and printmaker born and raised in New York City with a passion for traveling.

I’ve lived and traveled through a number of countries from Italy, Hong Kong, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Macau and I photograph these places that I have the great chance to learn about. I travel as cheaply as possible to these places, carrying on the basic necessities (you know, the usual: some loose change, clean socks, and my camera) and focusing on learning about the world outside of NYC, where I was born and raised.

I studied painting, printmaking, and sculpture throughout my years in University in New York. I had always been interested in photography but didn’t have the chance to study it in school so when I was living in Korea, I bought my first dSLR and since then (around May 2011), I’ve been photographing everything that interests me.

My photography is similar to my other artwork. I tend to focus on architecture, lines, the nitty-gritty urban culture, candid moments of people protected by anonymity with a focus more on their surroundings (basically, their faces are almost always hidden and if not, they’re rarely the main focus of the photograph).

In the next year, I hope to continue growing in my photography. I hope to get into photographing people more in their natural states and to capture fleeting moments provoked by nothing and everything: both natural and manmade, both planned and unexpected, both dirty and beautiful.

I also hope to be traveling back to Korea to explore the country further and its neighboring countries as well. Some day, I will see Germany.
